These tattered "relics" of the past were handed out along with a paper certificate when I graduated from Batavia in 1980, and Philpot in 1982.  The paper certificates have long since disappeared, but I've proudly carried these in my wallet since the day they were given to me.

 

The signature shown to the left is that of Harold Philpot.  He was an Englishman who founded The Philpot Schools in the mid 1950's.  He was a true "character", and remains a legend in the automotive body drafting business.

Completing the Philpot course still stands as one of my most prized accomplishments.  It was 9-months of pure HELL.  The school was so well respected, that graduates of the Philpot School of Automotive Body Drafting were guaranteed jobs, even in the toughest of times.  

Unfortunately, declining enrollment, brought on by the use of CAD, forced these excellent manual drafting and design schools to close their doors for good several years ago.
